Here’s the Situation:
It’s 3rd and 12
Your team is down by 4 points
There’s a three minutes on the clock
You have to keep the drive alive
Undefeated Season - Conference Championship - Playoffs all on the line.
Can you make the call that guarantees a first down?
Email me back (CoachFreeb@aol.com) and I will send you the play that has been The Most Successful pass play for us over my 40 years of coaching.
This pass play has produced more first downs, kept more drives alive and scored more TDs than any other pass play we have run over the years and that includes a state record for number of passes caught by a receiver in Ohio in the 70s.

If we are between the goal posts, we shall run doubles formation. If outside the goalposts, we shall run trips to the wide side.
Our WR runs a Fade/Option Route. Outside Release and start fade route. If he is even with the CB at 10 yds and has created a 4 yd sideline cushion, he continues the fade catching it between 25-30 yds beyond LOS.
If CB is over the top of WR, WR stops at 10 yds turning to his inside. QB throws ball off of 3 Step Big with a Hold to WR's inside shoulder releasing ball before WR has stopped and turned. WR catches and spins out driving low for the first down a la Jerry Rice. This not a comeback, it is a true option route that is ideal for 3rd and 12.
If called to both sides, QB selects best matchup. #2 receiver runs a streak option at 12-14 yds and #3 runs an arrow route.
