New Training Article : Conjugate Method

This week we have two articles on the topic of conjugate method of periodization. As you may recall, we had an article a few weeks ago detailing linear (or Western) periodization. When boiled down to its basics, linear periodization consists of varying training through phases of different rep ranges to work on different aspects of athletic performance. When the conjugate method is boiled down to its basics, it consists of varying training through changing the selections of exercises, but working multiple aspects of athletic performance all in the same week.
The first article is by Louie Simmons from Westside Barbell, who is by all reports, the foremost guru of power lifting. For those not familiar, Westside Barbell the most successful power lifting gym ever, and has also become the top think tank for power lifting strength and conditioning theory.

The second article by Jason Ferruggia is a counter point to conjugate training article. While Jason does not condemn the conjugate method, he does offer some theories about where and when it is best used (or not used). More importantly, Jason Ferruggia is not a power lifter, but a S&C coach for athletes (including football players). Ferruggia\'s article is very long, but one of the best articles I have read on the subject of periodization.

Check it out in the training forum:
