 Weight lighting and basketball players

I'm the head football coach at the high school I work at. We have been lifting weights during the past months. The basketball players have been lifting in the morning. Recently the basketball team has lost a couple of close games, and the basketball coach told all of the boys to stop lifting weights because it is screwing up their shots.

Does anyone have any clinical studies or has any one done any research that supports weight training during a basketball season? I would be really interested in the information.

Thank you

Coach~
Not only should basketball players be lifting in the off-season, but continue a 2-day split during the season. Lifting should take place the day after a game or a few days before and should be limited to a few Core exercises. There is a huge misconception with strength-training and basketball player's shooting technique. Many basketball coaches do not have the training or resources (i.e., strength coach) to correctly implement such a program. I have had tremendous success with all of my basketball athletes, both boys and girls. I would be willing to talk to you more about this in detail if interested.

I am a girls varsity basktball coach at St. Anthony High School in Long Beach,
California. I am going to start a weight training program this fall. Most of the girls
have never lifted weights before. Any suggestions to help get me started. I know
that this is going to help us tremendously but I also antisipate some resistance from the athletes and thier parents. What are your thoughts on circuit training?
Please advise,
