Be Aware:

I have heard that this clinic group has decided to take money from certain vendors in exchange for preventing other vendors to exhibit. They are enriching themselves by limiting your choices, coaches. Some might call this competition, but this is not in the spirit of a true educational clinic for coaches, in my opinion.

Be wary of folks who will sell out for their own gain, at your loss, guys.

I'm a vendor that is exihibiting for the mega clinics this season and I have not encountered anything like that. I have received nothing but the best service from the mega clinic people.

Coach, we have done this in one instance and turned down many other opportunities to make more money by limiting certain vendors.

What you need to understand is that it was not all about money. This company is building and hosting the website that allows us to offer our Glazier Clinic on line material at no additional cost to our season pass holders. This is a huge benefit to our customers, allowing them year round education for their whole staff, including their coaches who could not make the clinics.
My sense is that this provides our customers much more value for their educational dollar. The amount of exhibitors we are excluding is not a significant part of our total. You must also realize that we had this in place last year and not one coach complained.
When we agreed to this, it seemed like a no brainer in terms of benefits to our coaches and I still feel that way. Thanks for letting me fill you in on all of the details. Chris Coughlin

Chris,

Thanks for addressing this issue. It just seemed to me that excluding any exhibitors, even one, is a slippery slope, despite what you are getting in return.

While I appreciate your justifications, it seems less of a no-brainer to me to let one exhibitor offer you something (money or otherwise) to prevent another from exhibiting at your clinics, even though it only presents a few less options to coaches.

Or maybe this is just "good business" and I'm just an old honest coach. I guess I'm just doubtful about who benefits the most here.

Thanks again for your honest and prompt follow up, Chris.

I get the slippery slope argument and am aware of it. I just want you to know that I turned down two companies this summer that wanted exclusives and who offered me a ton of money. I did this because I thought it may diminish the clinics. The deal I did do, enhanced the clinics and excluded very few companies that actually exhibit. Thanks for hearing both sides. Chris

I have been coming to the Glazier and then Mega/Glazier clinics in the metro chicago area since I began coaching in 1994. It seems to me the same people have vended at all the clinics and even the clinics that are not mega/glazier (IHFCA, CPLFCA, CCLFCA, Northrwestern Football Clinic, Nike, Allsports, Zierlien, Bill George Youth, Extreme, just to name a few other). I cant believe a thread like this exists, I believe their is plenty of choice for coaches.

-Chris keep up the good work your clinics are great because of the relationships you have cultivated.

-The venders you have have built relationships with you and thier clients.

-Many of the reps are coaches or retired coaches. They are people who coaches at the clinics like and trust (not just a bunch of fly by night salesmen trying to dump thier junk)

-Chris, you dont need to defend your business practices, but we do want you to keep provideing a great learning environment, at a fair price, and we love the fact that now we can have "homework"

This year our company tried to become a vendor at the Glazier clinics and we were turned down because of an exclusive contract for Varsity Gold to be the only fund raising vendor allowed at the clinics. We would love to be a vendor at the Glazier Clinics but have to wait another 3 years to even try when the Varsity Gold contract is over and hope that they do not sign another deal. We have run into this problem with the Nike conventions as well yet they allow us to come to those conventions as long as we do not present the same product as Varsity Gold.
